With Deep Sadness, Support, and Solidarity

It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of a fellow nurse.
On January 24, 2026, Alex Jeffrey Pretti - a dedicated critical care nurse from Minneapolis - was killed during an incident involving federal immigration enforcement agents. The death of a member of our profession is a deeply sorrowful moment that touches us all.
The San Fernando Valley AACN stands with our nursing and healthcare colleagues in extending heartfelt condolences to Alex's family, friends, and those who worked alongside him. We also reaffirm that nurses' commitment to advocacy goes beyond caring for individual patients and their families - we strive for a society where safety, dignity, and well-being are upheld for everyone.
In this time of grief, we encourage the nursing community to come together in mutual support. We acknowledge how deeply this loss resonates among us, and we urge nurses to lean on one another and to seek peer or professional support as needed. Our own well-being is essential to our ability to continue delivering compassionate, high-quality care.
