Course Description

This 2 day live didactic course for CCRN or PCCN certification provides the critical care or progressive care/telemetry nurse with a review of the AACN’s core curriculum content in preparation to take the CCRN or PCCN exam. This review course follows the blueprint of AACN with emphasis on body systems and modules most likely to be tested. Review of sample questions and answers will enhance participant’s ability to successfully pass the exam. This dynamic course may also be taken as a review to obtain CE credits.

Continuing Education Credit:

 CCRN: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing provider number 13638. Sixteen (16) contact hours will be given for the CCRN course.

PCCN: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing provider number 13638. Fifteen (15) contact hours will be given for the PCCN course.

Course Objectives:

By the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

 Identify key points related to test-taking skills and practice questions.

  1. Review important anatomy and physiology for each body system.
  2. Discuss pathophysiology, etiology, signs and symptoms, diagnostic studies, and patient management for diagnoses related to critical care and progressive care patients.
  3. Define preload, afterload, and contractility and the use of pharmacologic therapies to manipulate hemodynamic parameters.
  1. Discuss normal and abnormal physiology of coagulation, fibrinolysis, and inflammation related to the SIRS and/or sepsis patient.
  2. Recognize signs and symptoms related to respiratory failure and other pulmonary diagnoses.
  3. Review the management of hyperglycemic emergencies utilizing an interactive case study approach.
  4. Describe the AACN Synergy Model and how it is incorporated into our professional practice.

About the Speaker:

Linda DeStefano, DNP, CCRN, PCCN, CEN, CMSRN, ACNP, FCCM is a Doctorate-prepared, board certified acute care nurse practitioner with a strong enthusiastic passion for teaching and mentoring nurses both clinically and through the certification process. She has over 30 years of acute care nursing experience, and has recently transitioned from 16 years in a Clinical Nurse Specialist position in ICU to an Acute Care Hospitalist role, managing a variety of adult patients including Medical-Surgical, ICU, Telemetry, ED, and throughout the continuum of care to the time of discharge. Dr. DeStefano has presented both locally and nationally on diverse clinical topics. She has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA School of Nursing and as a preceptor for graduate students at UCLA, California State University Long Beach, and other universities. She is a past President and currently serving as a Director at Large for the American Association of Critical Care Nurses local chapter and is honored to be a Fellow in the American College of Critical Care Medicine.
